Ministry of Roads and Transport Excels at KECOSO Games

The Ministry of Roads and Transport (MoRT) clinched second position at the Kenya Communications Sports Organization (KECOSO) 2024 games, held in Nakuru County.

The 2024 games which saw a thrilling display of sporting excellence, wrapped up with a vibrant closing ceremony on Saturday, marking the end of an exciting week of competition.

The closing ceremony at the Nakuru ASK Showground was graced by notable dignitaries including Dr. Josephine Atieno, the County Executive Committee Member for Youth, Gender, Culture and Sports in Nakuru County, Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) Board Chairman, Hon. Caleb Kositany, Post Master General Mr. John Tanui, Simlaw Board Chairman Hon. Bernard Wambwa and KECOSO Games Organising Committee officials.

The last action of the games was an intense football match between Talanta FC from Communications Authority (CA) and Posta Rangers from the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK). Talanta FC secured a 2-1 win in a tightly contested match.

MoRT was one of the standout performers throughout the games, competing in various sports and clinching top honours in several categories. In athletics, MoRT outshone other teams, securing top spot and solidifying their reputation as a force on the track. PCK followed closely in second place, while the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) finished third. Table tennis was a highlight for MoRT, as they clinched first place in both men's and women's categories.

In football, CA took first place, PCK finished second and MoRT third. The women’s volleyball team from MoRT triumphed, earning first place while CA and PCK took second and third place. Notably, Flavian Awinja of MoRT was named the best attacker. In men’s volleyball, CA took first place, followed by KAA and MoRT. Kennedy Mugo from MoRT was named the best striker.

MoRT clinched second place in scrabble, where CA and KAA secured first and third positions, respectively. MoRT also finished second in netball behind PCK while in swimming, both men's and women's teams showed commendable skill, earning third place in both categories.

In the overall rankings, CA emerged first with 59 points, followed by MoRT in second place with 49 points, and KAA in third with 42 points. PCK came fourth with 36 points, while KeNHA rounded out the top five with 16 points.

The 2024 KECOSO games were a remarkable display of athleticism, competitive spirit, and camaraderie. MoRT’s strong performance proved their consistency and determination to excel. This year’s edition highlighted the importance of teamwork and resilience, especially as the games were held amidst a growing emphasis on wellness at the workplace.
