Growing a Greener Future: Mazingira Day 2026 at Dongo Kundu
The State Department for Transport today joined the national effort to promote environmental conservation and sustainability during the Mazingira Day 2026 tree-planting exercise held at Dongo Kundu, Mombasa County.
The exercise was led by the Principal Secretary, State Department for Transport, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, CBS, and brought together state agencies including the Kenya Railways Corporation, Kenya Ports Authority and the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority, government officials from the Kenya Forest Service and community-based organisations in a collective commitment to environmental responsibility.
Held under the theme "Connecting Mobility with Environmental Responsibility," the initiative underscored the importance of integrating environmental conservation into the transport sector's operations and development priorities.
Speaking during the exercise, the Principal Secretary emphasised that mangroves help retain water, calm strong tides and stabilise weather patterns across the region and called on communities, schools and agencies to work together to instil environmental values from a very tender age.
The exercise involved the planting of 5,000 mangrove trees, contributing to the national tree-growing campaign and supporting efforts to restore green spaces, enhance biodiversity and strengthen climate resilience.
The Department recognises that a sustainable transport system must go hand in hand with environmental stewardship. Through collaboration with relevant agencies and stakeholders, it continues to support initiatives that promote climate-conscious transport development and environmental protection.
The participation in Mazingira Day 2026 reinforces the State Department for Transport's commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future while ensuring that mobility and environmental responsibility advance together.
Greener Today, Safer Tomorrow.
