Taita Taveta Leaders meeting with the Cabinet Secretary

The Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen yesterday held a consultative meeting with Taita Taveta County leaders at Transcom House, Nairobi.

On the agenda was the progress of road projects in the county.

These include the 67km Ilasit-Njukini road that links Taita Taveta and Kajiado County, whose construction will begin in March. The road will shorten the distance between Taveta and Nairobi.

The CS assured the leaders of the Government’s commitment to developing road networks in the region saying improved transport infrastructure will spur economic development.

He also stressed that the Ministry will ensure that  contractors  keep roads motorable even as construction is going on.

The CS also noted that the roads being developed pass through agriculturally rich areas and will help farmers transport  produce to markets. Improved infrastructure will also be a boon to the tourism sector through easing travel to desired destinations in the region and beyond.

Among those who attended the meeting were the heads of various Roads Agencies.

Governor Andrew Mwadime led the team of MPs Lydia Haika (Woman Rep), Khamis Chome (Voi), John Bwire (Taveta), Danson Mwakuwona (Wundanyi) and Peter Shake (Mwatate).
